Little America offers musical training and performance opportunities in Italy in partnership with The Foundation "Alfonso Gatto" (www.alfonsogatto.org). The foundation was established in 2006 to honor Alfonso Gatto, one of the foremost Italian poets of the 20th century. In addition to its literary work, the foundation also promotes other artistic and musical activities, regularly hosting programs and workshops with prominent Italian musicians and professors. The Foundation is based in Salerno in a historic site - the complex of the former Convent of San Lorenzo.
Our music programs are based in beautiful Salerno, located on the Amalfi coast in Italy. Famous for its Scuola Medica Salernitana (the first University of Medicine in the world), Salerno is also known among musicians for its theater, Teatro Verdi (pictured above). Built in 1872, the theater’s magnificent ceiling is decorated with paintings of Gaetano D'Agostino. In addition, the Centro storico di Salerno (historical downtown of Salerno) is one of the best maintained in the Italian peninsula; a vibrant shopping district with the Duomo at its centre.
